On our last trip to Texas, we had to stop and enjoy one of our favorites from our home state of Oregon - Voodoo Doughnuts! They are a world-renowned doughnut chain known for its quirky flavors and creative designs. Originally based in Portland, Oregon, the chain has expanded to several locations across the United States, including Austin, Texas. I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Voodoo Doughnut shop in Austin, and it was a truly unique experience.
The first thing that struck me about the Austin location was its vibrant exterior. The building is painted bright pink and covered in colorful murals of doughnuts and other playful designs. It's hard to miss and definitely adds to the fun, lively vibe of the area.
Inside, the shop was bustling with customers of all ages, eagerly waiting to try Voodoo Doughnut's famous doughnuts. The selection is impressive, with over 50 flavors to choose from, including classics like glazed and chocolate frosted, as well as more unusual options like the Grape Ape, which is topped with grape dust and lavender sprinkles, and the Bacon Maple Bar, a raised yeast doughnut with maple frosting and bacon on top.
My favorite is the glazed old fashioned, but I brought home half a dozen doughnuts for the rest of the family -on the plane and everything! The doughnuts were fresh, soft, and absolutely delicious. The flavors were perfectly balanced, and the doughnuts were not overly sweet, making them a great treat any time of day.
One of the things that sets Voodoo Doughnut apart from other doughnut shops is its quirky and playful aesthetic. The doughnuts are decorated with fun designs, including shapes like voodoo dolls and even some that resemble body parts. It's all in good fun and definitely adds to the experience of visiting the shop.
Overall, my visit to Voodoo Doughnut in Austin was a memorable one. The doughnuts were delicious, the atmosphere was lively, and the unique designs added to the overall fun and playful vibe of the shop. If you find yourself in Austin and have a sweet tooth, I highly recommend stopping by Voodoo Doughnut for a truly unique and delicious experience.
